Reminding Yourself of the Reasons Why You Chose to Work at Home

There are days when you seem to not enjoy “working for yourself from home”.  And when things get hard and you start to feel the pressure, you might even consider retreating to the (phony) security of  an ordinary “Joe job” in the traditional workforce and in a traditional workplace.

If you are experiencing an acute case of the work at home melancholy, take a minute to remind yourself why you’re working from home to begin with.

Most people who come to a decision to manage their own home businesses don’t do so merely because of money. You may enjoy the idea of writing your own checks – but it almost certain that there is more to it than that.

Most people decide to work from home because of the freedom, the control and the flexibility that comes with it. They decide to be their own boss because they control their own time and don’t need to punch a clock. And also that while others work hard for someone else’s well-being, everything they do is for them and their business. Think about these and remind yourself that you are one of these people – and that you have chosen wisely when you decided to be one of them.

When you remind yourself of why you chose to run your own business from home, it can be rather easy to get over the so-called “work at home melancholy”.  And in the few times that you get tired or even bored from working at home, remind yourself of the “big picture” that was once your dream – and how much healthier it is than punching the clock at someone else’s business.

Is Working from Home Right for You

Is working from home right for you?  Yes, I know ti sounds like a great idea.  The question, though, is whether you’re really cut out for it.

Many people try to make things work while working from home, but many can’t get the job done.  What kind of person can be successful trading in their cubical for a basement office?

First, you need to be the kind of person who’s self-motivating and who doesn’t’ need someone yelling at them in order to keep moving.

Second, you need to be ready, willing and able to find answers to your questions.  In many jobs, you can rely on someone else to figure out certain details.  That’s not the case when you’re running your own show from home.

Finally, you have to be creative.  It’s amazing just how tough it can be to handle all of the little trivialities that emerge while you’re working at home.  You’ll need to be able to find solutions on your own, on the fly.

Are you the right kind of person for working at home?  You might be.  More and more people are discovering that it’s a great way to make a living.

Three Reasons to Love Working from Home

Working from home is great.  This post is going to give you three reasons why it’s such a spectacular arrangement.

We’re going to make in interesting, though.  No discussion of personal financial freedom.  No mention of having the final say or of being the boss.  We’re not even going to dwell on the ways having your own home business can lead to an increased sense of self-improvement.

Reason 1: You can watch a western on television in your bathrobe while making money.  Now that’s hard to beat.  You can kick back on the sofa with your laptop in the middle of the afternoon and watch an old John Ford western on TV while you develop a massive moneymaker.  If you’re not a bathrobe kind of person, you can choose something else.  Heck, you can even work “au natural”.

Reason 2: You don’t miss any of the good stuff.  When your kid has a school holiday party at 2:00 p.m. on a Wednesday, you can be there.  Those guys locked in cubicles?  They can’t.  Well, they might be able to if they fill out request forms and have enough personal time banked.  Of course, that will depend on the whim of the manager, won’t it?  Meanwhile, you can have a front row seat for the Halloween costume parade at the elementary school.

Reason 3: You control the company you keep.  Remember that really annoying guy from accounts payable who always tried to chat you up in the elevator?  He’s history when you’re working from home.  No “how did he get that job” middle managers.  No loud co-workers who interrupt you twelve times per hour.  It’s comfort and it’s control over the people with whom you interact.  That’s tough to beat.

This list could go on forever, as you well know.  The fact of the matter is that there’s nothing quite like the flexibility of owning your own home business.
